Exploring Secondment Opportunities with the University of Limerick: Mathematics in Action
At the University of Limerick, the Department of Mathematics & Statistics is home to the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI), a research group dedicated to using mathematical and statistical modeling to solve real-world challenges. MACSI’s collaborative approach brings together academics, scientists, public bodies, and industry partners across a diverse range of fields—from arts to zoology.
Interdisciplinary Research with Real-World Impact
MACSI is focused on developing cutting-edge solutions through interdisciplinary research in four core areas: Mathematical Modelling, Complex Systems, Statistical Modelling, and Industry Applications. This includes innovations in survival modeling, spatio-temporal statistical modeling, renewable energy modeling (wind and solar), and climatology. MACSI’s researchers are also working on key projects to support Ireland’s zero-carbon energy goals, from creating models that assess environmental stresses on wind turbines to developing predictive algorithms for solar and wind energy outputs.
Opportunities for Postdoctoral Fellows
Postdoctoral fellows joining MACSI at the University of Limerick will gain hands-on experience in applied mathematics and statistical modeling through secondments that offer:
Scientific Input: Contribute to innovative projects with real-world applications.
Research Infrastructure: Access the University of Limerick’s resources and facilities to advance impactful research.
Career Development and Mentoring: Benefit from guidance and networking opportunities to enhance your professional path.
Secondment Hosting and Internships: Work with industry partners on collaborative R&D projects.
Why Choose the University of Limerick for Your Secondment?
MACSI’s research environment provides postdoctoral fellows with an excellent opportunity to work alongside some of Ireland’s most promising researchers in mathematics and statistics, engaging directly with industry partners on solutions that address national and global needs. A secondment at MACSI is a chance to contribute to transformative research that spans disciplines, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening future collaborations in both academia and industry.
